We hope that most guests take advantage of their kitchens and dine at Tiny Escape.  There’s nothing like dining on your own patio as the sun sets.  Still, everyone likes a night off from cooking, so where to go?  Fortunately, we have remarkable dining all within a 15-minute drive.  Here is our “favorites” list:

  • O Monte – Chef Marco and the team are working towards earning restaurant award and it shows in his cuisine. The experience is fine dining; every dish, excellent.  The staff is warm and knowledgeable.  They always have a signature dessert that we guarantee you have never seen.  Filipa, the chef’s wife, runs the restaurant.  Tell her Tiny Escape sent you and ask for recommendations.  She is delightful. +351 962-302-053
  • Quinta da Cavada – Sitting atop of a hill, it’s a good idea to be there just before dusk to take in the view. The name says it all; they are also a farm so it feels like garden-to-table dining.  Spend a moment to walk around a little outside to take in the beauty.  Inside the restaurant is large but warm and inviting. +351 927-858-204
  • Adega Do Ti Joaquim – If you are having a spa-day in São Pedro do Sul, this is your obvious choice for dinner. It’s in town and has an excellent menu with both inside and outside dining. +351 969-654-671
  • Margarida – Another husband and wife team. They are both kind and genuine.  We would describe their food as true (and excellent) Portuguese food.  For our non-Portuguese guests, this is the perfect introduction to the cuisine.  Be ready for a good dose of classic 80s music as well!  By the end of the meal you will feel like you know them. +351 936-935-843
  • Café Central – Jose Augusto Ferreira – If you are planning to visit Portugal you’ve probably already heard of a Pastel da Nata, but how about a Pastel da Vouzela? This is a very different treat with paper-thin white crust and we think this is the best place to try it.  Café Central is a great pastry breakfast stop before a big excursion day!

Why You’ll Love It

  • Excellent food.
  • They are also cultural experiences as well. We encourage to spend a few minutes talking to these owners.
  • A night off from cooking in your tiny home.

Helpful Hints

  • All of these restaurants except for Café Central take reservations and they do book up. We recommend calling them before you leave your home.
  • Tipping in Portugal is not expected. If the service is good, feel free to leave something but anything over 10% would be unusual.  People often leave 1-2 euros.
  • None of these restaurants have a dress code and Portugal is a relaxed country. For the first three, however, we do not recommend shorts and T-shirts.
  • On occasion, restaurants in Portugal will tell you how long you can stay. Don’t be offended.  They often have a small number of tables and, to stay open, they need to have more than one seating.  It’s like an upfront agreement but you will never be asked to leave.
  • In Portugal at the end of the meal, if you tell your wait staff that you are through, they are likely to interpret this as to leave you alone. You will need to tell them that you are ready for your bill (A conta, por favor).
